Make the Most of Your Tan

PRE-TAN CHECKLIST

  • We recommend you exfoliate & moisturize at least 10-12 hours or the day before your tan, paying particular attention to elbows, knees, ankles and other dry areas.
  • If you are waxing or shaving we recommend doing so at least 10-12 hours prior to or the day before tanning. This allows the pores on your body time to close, preventing dark spots.
  • For the entire 10-12 hours before your tan avoid using bar soaps, oil based products or in-shower moisturizers. These products tend to leave an invisible film on the skin which can act as a barrier and prevent the tanning agents from developing evenly
  • We recommend that you do not apply moisturizer, perfume, deodorant or makeup on the day of your tan. This may cause discoloration or a patchy tan result that won’t last as long.

POST-TAN CHECKLIST

  • After your appointment, allow the tan to develop for 4-6  hours for more natural results. If you'd like to achieve a deeper tan allow 6-8+ hours for the tan to develop to your desired results.
  • Rinse off quickly for  just 1-2 min or until the water runs clear with ONLY lukewarm water- no soaps, shaving, scrubbing yet.
  • You will see the built-in bronzers wash away, leaving you with your results.  Do not use hot water - it can lead to patchiness. This is a common mistake people make, especially in the colder months.
  • Once you have rinsed off, you're all set- you can go to bed or throw on your favorite outfit without having to worry about staining anything.
  • Pat your skin dry after showering. Do not rub or scrub your skin.
  • Moisturizer will be your best friend when tanning, and will prolong the lifetime & quality of your glow if you remember to do so daily! Using a gradual tan moisturizer can also keep your skin hydrated while continously topping off your tan for longer lasting results.
  • After day 10, exfoliate with a body scrub or loofah on a daily basis to help your skin absorb even more moisturizer and keep it looking and feeling gorgeous. This also helps the tan fade naturally, rather than in patches.

Common questions

What is Spray Tanning?

Spray tanning is a form of sunless tanning that won't damage your skin, and can offer a natural, streak-free tan. A popular alternative to tanning beds, airbrush tans are not only attractive and safe, but they also save you time and money.

How does Spray Tanning Work?

When spray tanning, the tanning solution is applied by a technician using a compressor and airbrush. These tanning solutions contain the active ingredient DHA that reacts with the outer layer of skin to produce a bronzing effect, similar to what a traditional tan does.

What is DHA?

DHA is the main tanning ingredient used in all airbrush tanning solutions. DHA is dihydroxyacetone, a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. DHA is usually derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. Its properties as a skin darkener were discovered in the 1920′s but weren’t marketed as such until the 1960′s when Coppertone® introduced Quick Tan®. It was added to the FDA’s list of approved cosmetic ingredients in the 1970′s.

How long does a Tan last?

On average, a typical spray tan lasts up to around 10 days. However, the longevity depends on several factors, which include lifestyle habits, daily activities, and skin routines.

Spending time in jacuzzis or saunas, taking long baths/showers on a daily basis, participating in activitities that may cause excessive sweating, exfoliating, hair removal, or failure to moisturize daily may cause your tan to fade at a faster rate. By following our aftercare tips, you will make the most out of the lifetime of your tan.

Where does the Appointment take place?

We are a professional mobile tanning business based in Manhasset, NY. We travel to our clients homes all over Long Island, and New York. Our technician(s) comes ready to bronze you up with a Pop-up tent, mobile machine, and a range of Pro Tan Solutions of course!

We recommend planning out a space in your home for the appointment to take place ahead of time. Most clients tan in their garage, pool house, basement or living room- but as long as there is adequate space & an outlet we can set up anywhere!

What should I Wear?

During the session you may wear a swimsuit, underwear/bra, or if you prefer no tan-lines you have the option of going nude. We also offer disposable thongs, pasties and hairnets available at no additional charge. We strongly advise you prepare dark-colored, loose-fitting clothes to change into at the end of your session. We also recommend that you avoid wearing a bra, stockings or any other tight garments immediately after your session.

Can the Spray Tan stain my clothing?

Most spray tanning solutions, including the MineTan Pro formulas, contain built in bronzers which provide an instant bronzing effect and which is also used to guide the tech through your application. These bronzers are temporary and will wash away during your initial rinse. While we do thoroughly dry you off at the end of your session, mild transfer on sheets or clothing may occur before your initial rinse. However the solution is water-soluble and can easily be removed from most fabrics. The solution will not stain or transfer after your initial rinse, unless you use abundant oil-based products that could pull the solution from your skin.

Is Spray Tanning Safe for Pregnant/Nursing Women?

Yes- it's totally safe to get a tan while you're pregnant and/or nursing. None of the ingredients in our tanning solutions are absorbed by the bloodstream. Spray tanning will only add color to the top surface of your skin, creating a gorgeous glow.

Are your formulas Clean/Cruelty Free?

We really care about the quality of the formulas we use at Bronzed on the Glow, that being said our formulas contain skin loving, PETA- approved ingredients that benefit skin, including moisturizing antioxidants and oils like organ oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, coconut water, shea butter and more. Every solution is free of parabens, contains 100% natural DHA and is vegan friendly.

Is there a "fake tan" smell?

Absolutely not! Our clients love the way our formulas smell. Most would describe our formulas to have a light coconut scent.
